โ๏ธNotre Dame Sports
๐ฅLacrosse
This is the lead today. Notre Dame men's lacrosse made program - and arguably NCAA - history Saturday by knocking off No. 1 North Carolina 10-5 at Arlotta Stadium. It was the Irish's second straight win over a No. 1-ranked team, after toppling then-top-ranked Richmond 12-8 the prior weekend in Chicago. UNC actually led 2-0 after the first quarter on goals from Dominic Pietramala and Brevin Wilson, but a 4-0 Notre Dame run flipped the game and the defense held the Tar Heels to just three goals the rest of the way. The Irish move to 8-1 (1-1 ACC) and are expected to ascend to No. 1 in the next poll. UNC drops to 10-2.
The women's team had a heartbreaker on the same day. No. 15 Notre Dame fell 10-9 in quadruple overtime at No. 3 Syracuse - the longest game in Syracuse program history and only the second 4OT game in ND history. The Irish trailed 9-6 late in regulation, scored three straight to force OT, then watched Caroline Trinkaus bury a goal with one second left in the 4th overtime period to extend Syracuse's nation-best win streak to 12. Emma Murphy and Kate Timarky each had two goals for ND; Uma Kowalski controlled 12 draws (ND won the draw battle 18-6). The O'Brien sisters combined for seven caused turnovers. Brutal way to lose, and the Irish drop to 11-4 (5-4 ACC).
Upcoming:
- Men's: at Duke - Friday, April 17
- Women's: vs. Louisville - Wednesday, April 16 (regular season finale, home)
- Men's: vs. Syracuse at home - Saturday, April 25
Last Results:
- M: W 10-5 vs. #1 North Carolina (April 11)
- W: L 9-10 (4OT) at #3 Syracuse (April 11)
๐Football
Spring practice continues with the Blue-Gold Game still set for Saturday, April 25 at 2 p.m. ET on Peacock. The narrative engine is full steam ahead: ESPN now has Notre Dame leading the nation in returning production, and Heather Dinich has the Irish in legitimate national championship contention. Will Black has cemented himself at left tackle, which pushed Anthonie Knapp inside to guard - and early reports on Knapp at his new spot are positive. The "revenge tour" framing around CJ Carr and Leonard Moore continues to drive the offseason story.
Upcoming: Blue-Gold Game - Sat, April 25, 2:00 p.m. ET (Peacock) Season Opener: Sept. 6 vs. Wisconsin at Lambeau Field (Shamrock Series, NBC/Peacock)
๐Women's Basketball
The Audi Crooks watch continues. Still no commitment, but the Iowa State All-American is also still following the ND WBB account, Niele Ivey, Hannah Hidalgo, and KK Bransford on Instagram - a week into her portal window. The portal closes April 20, so the next several days are when this either lands or doesn't. Multiple national outlets (SI, 247Sports, On3) are now openly framing Notre Dame as the favored landing spot.
Last Result: Elite Eight - UConn 70, Notre Dame 52 (March 29)
๐Around the Program
- Baseball: Rough weekend at home. No. 13 Virginia took the series 2-1 - UVA won the opener 8-4 Friday, Notre Dame battled back for a 5-3 win Saturday, then UVA run-ruled the Irish 20-5 in eight innings on Sunday. Drops Notre Dame to 16-15 (7-11 ACC) and gives Virginia its first series win in South Bend since 2019.
๐ดUtah Utes
๐Football
No spring game this year. Morgan Scalley confirmed Saturday that Utah will use that traditional spring game slot as their 15th practice instead - "We've got enough new in the system that I really want to take advantage of that 15th practice." It also fits a broader trend: coaches are increasingly worried that breakout spring game performances become tampering bait for portal raiders. Utah State transfer WR Braden Pegan (926 receiving yards last season) is reportedly already helping teammates pick up the new offense.
The "22 For U Fan Day" replaces the spring game as the fan event - Saturday, April 18, 4:30-6 p.m. at Spence Eccles Field House. Free admission/parking, full team autographs, kids zone, live Scalley interview, and a "22 Forever" coat drive.
Upcoming: 22 For U Fan Day - Sat, April 18, 4:30-6 p.m., Spence Eccles Field House Season Opener: Sept. 3 vs. Idaho (home)
๐คธGymnastics
Avery Neff competes in the all-around at the NCAA Championships Thursday, April 16 in the second semifinal at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN2/ESPN+ in Fort Worth. Ana Padurariu (beam) and Ella Zirbes (floor) also have individual bids. Top-seeded Oklahoma - defending champs and seven-time national title holders - leads the field after a 198.350 at the Lexington regional. Final on Saturday, April 18, 4 p.m. ET on ABC.
Upcoming: NCAA Championships individual events - Thu, April 16 (semis on ESPN2)
๐Around the Program
- Baseball: No. 20 Arizona State took the series 2-1 in Tempe. Utah dropped a wild Friday opener 10-4 (multiple ejections, including ASU's head coach), then watched ASU steal a 14-13 walk-off Saturday after Utah scored eight in the top of the ninth to take the lead - only for ASU's PJ Moutzouridis to homer to lead off the bottom and Matt Polk to single in the winner. ASU sealed the series 5-2 Sunday.
- Softball: No. 1 Texas Tech took the home series 2-1 at Dumke Family Stadium. Utah dropped Friday's opener 10-2, bounced back with a 4-0 shutout Saturday, then fell 7-1 Sunday.
- Lacrosse: Utah clinched its ASUN Tournament spot with a fourth-quarter comeback win at Jacksonville Saturday. The Utes (8-3, 3-0 ASUN) trailed 4-0 after the first quarter before goalie Colin Lenskold (13 saves, season-high tying) and a 4-goal fourth-quarter run did the work.
๐ฐOhio State Buckeyes
๐Football
Spring Game is this Saturday - April 18, noon ET, Ohio Stadium, on Big Ten Network. General admission tickets are $13. The Buckeyes held their Student Appreciation Day practice Saturday and three transfers turned heads: WR Devin McCuin (UTSA) flashed real speed and route polish; CB Dominick Kelly (Georgia) locked things down on the back end; and DT James Smith (Alabama) was reported to dominate the offensive line. Veteran CB Devin Sanchez and slot WR Brandon Inniss continued strong springs, and backup QB Tavien St. Clair drew praise for his accuracy and poise.
The roster depth narrative has been the story all spring - Ryan Day has 16 transfer additions to replace 30 departed scholarship players, and he's repeatedly called this "one of the deepest rosters of his career."
Upcoming: Spring Game - Sat, April 18, 12:00 p.m. ET, Ohio Stadium (BTN) Season Opener: Sept. 5 vs. Ball State (home). Schedule includes at Texas (Sept. 12), Oregon at home (Nov. 7), Michigan at home (Nov. 28).
๐Around the Program
- Women's Lacrosse: Survived a wild one at USC, winning 11-10 in double overtime on the Trojans' Senior Day.
- NFL Draft Reminder: Draft kicks off April 23 in Pittsburgh. Five Buckeyes - Caleb Downs, Arvell Reese, Sonny Styles, Carnell Tate, Kayden McDonald - are all projected first-rounders, tying a program record.
๐๏ธTreasure Valley

โกEnergy & Industry
Avista filed a new energy efficiency rider increase with the Idaho PUC on February 13. If approved, it would push electric revenues up about $25.2 million (~7.4%) effective May 1, 2026. For an average residential customer using 939 kWh/month, that's roughly $8.90 more per month. This is on top of Avista's separate base-rate case already in front of the commission.
The Idaho Power data center debate - the H911 framework requiring large new loads (50+ MW over 5 years) to pay full infrastructure costs - remains the dominant policy story as Meta (Kuna), Micron's planned second fab (512 MW), and Diode's proposed Kuna facility (600-800 MW) work through approvals.

โกEnergy & Compliance
๐Building Performance Standards
Washington's Clean Buildings Performance Standard Tier 1 deadline is approaching fast - June 1, 2026 for buildings over 220,000 sq ft. Tier 2 buildings need O&M and EMP programs running by July 1, 2026 (compliance filing isn't until July 1, 2027). Early-adopter incentives can cover up to 100% of Tier 2 costs and 50% of Tier 1 costs - worth checking for any qualifying portfolios.
Oregon's BPS program is in incentive-rollout mode. ODOE began a federally funded incentive program in early 2026 to layer on top of the existing state-funded one. Reporting opens July 2026; first compliance deadlines hit June 1, 2028 for the largest Tier 1 buildings (โฅ200,000 sq ft).
Nationally, the BPS map keeps growing - over 50 U.S. cities now enforce some form of building energy requirements, with 9 having "strict" BPS laws carrying penalties from $100/day up to NYC's $268/metric ton CO2. Net-zero targets by 2050 (or earlier) are now standard.
๐Utilities & Programs
Avista's energy efficiency rider increase (covered above) is the active Idaho-side filing to watch. On the Idaho Power side, North Valmy's coal-to-gas conversion remains on the 2026 schedule, with full coal exit targeted by 2030 and ~261 MW of net new natural gas generation through 2043.
๐Industry Events
- Fri 5/1 - ASHRAE Idaho Tech Conference, Boise Centre on the Grove
- May 5-6 - NEEA Efficiency Exchange Conference (EFX26), Boise Centre (pre-conference May 4)
- Fri 6/5 - ASHRAE Idaho Tech Conference (second), 8am-2pm
- June 27 โ July 1 - ASHRAE Annual Conference, Austin, TX
๐คAI Brief
๐งTools & Models
Anthropic launched Claude Managed Agents in public beta - a fully managed agent harness for running Claude as an autonomous agent with secure sandboxing, built-in tools, and SSE streaming. Pair this with the new ant CLI (a command-line client for the Claude API with Claude Code integration and YAML-versioned API resources) and you have the building blocks for production agent workflows without standing up your own infrastructure.
Claude Mythos Preview continues to dominate the news cycle. Anthropic now has Project Glasswing running with 40+ tech and financial firms (Apple, Google, Microsoft included) providing controlled access to find and patch vulnerabilities before public release. Treasury Secretary Bessent and Fed Chair Powell convened Wall Street CEOs over the cyber-risk implications.
Cursor + Claude Code + Codex are quietly merging into a single AI coding stack that nobody officially planned - devs are increasingly using all three together. Claude Code itself has overtaken most paid editor integrations among professional developers, with multi-hour autonomous task execution becoming routine (one documented Rakuten project ran 7 hours).
๐Business & Market
- Q1 2026 was the largest startup funding quarter in history. $300 billion globally into 6,000 startups - 150%+ jump QoQ and YoY. $221 billion of that went to North American AI companies.
- OpenAI closed a $122 billion private round at an $852 billion post-money valuation - the largest private venture round ever.
- Anthropic raised $30 billion (Series G) at a $380 billion post-money - the second-largest. Annualized revenue jumped from ~$9B at end of 2025 to $30B today.
- Per FT/Ramp data: ~30% of American businesses now pay for Anthropic's AI offerings (vs. flat 35% for OpenAI). Anthropic is closing the enterprise gap fast.
- IPO calendar firming: SpaceX/xAI targeting June at $1.75T; OpenAI targeting Q4 near $1T; Databricks H2 at $134B.
๐กWorth Knowing
- Frontier Model Forum coordination on Chinese model theft. OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google are now sharing intelligence on adversarial-distillation attempts (the technique used to copy frontier models) - the first publicly coordinated industry defense.
- MCP crossed 97 million monthly SDK downloads (Python + TypeScript) and is now adopted by every major provider - Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, Microsoft, Amazon. If you've been ignoring MCP, this is the moment it stopped being optional.
- Agent mode is now live in Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini - all three can control your browser for booking, browsing, and multi-step web tasks. Worth a quick test on a real workflow.
