๐ŸŒ…Personal Briefing - Wednesday, May 13, 2026

Good morning. Here's your personal read.

๐ŸƒTraining

๐ŸƒToday's Plan

๐Ÿ“… Build week 1/5 - 10K in 6 weeks Races: 10K (06-20) - 38d ยท Half Marathon (10-11) - 151d ยท Half Marathon (11-14) - 185d

๐Ÿƒ Today (Wednesday): 22-min easy run ยท 8-min abs ยท 5-min stretch Target pace: 9:30โ€“10:00/mi (Z2, conversational) Z2 balance at 33% (build target โ‰ฅ60%) - keep it easy today to rebuild the ratio.

Best window: Evening - 66ยฐF, sunny, wind 20 mph

๐Ÿ“ŠThis Week

Thu: 22-min easy run ยท 8-min abs ยท 5-min stretch ยท pace 9:30โ€“10:00/mi - keep the easy base going Fri: no run today ยท 15-min abs ยท 10-min stretch - Friday rest from running - abs + stretch, recharge for long run

This week: 0 runs ยท 0.0 mi ยท 0 min Zone check: insufficient data this week (0 runs, 0 min) - keep building consistency before zone targets become meaningful.

Recent runs:

  • Mon 05-04 ยท 1.1 mi ยท 10 min ยท 8:26/mi (Z3)
  • Thu 05-07 ยท 4 mi ยท 40 min ยท 9:59/mi (easy)
  • Sat 05-09 ยท 3.2 mi ยท 24 min ยท 7:34/mi (Z4)

โœ“ 2 family walks this week - keep it up, those matter too.

โš ๏ธ Weather note for the evening window: A wind advisory runs through midnight tonight - west winds 25-35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph as the cold front pushes through. The 8 mph "best window" assumes the front clears earlier; if gusts are still ripping at run time, treadmill or push to Thursday. Don't fight 50-mph crosswinds for an easy Z2 day.

โ˜˜๏ธNotre Dame Sports

๐ŸˆFootball

Folorunsho watch is on - announcement Friday at 5 p.m. Five-star DL David Folorunsho (No. 2 DL, No. 9 overall in the 2027 class) commits live on the Rivals YouTube channel Friday May 15, and Notre Dame is firmly the favorite. The Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine has the Irish at 76.1% to land him, with three insiders projecting Notre Dame back in February and a single Texas Tech pick in mid-April that's looking shakier after Folorunsho's two April visits to South Bend (the second with his mother). His finalists are Notre Dame, Georgia, Michigan, Miami, and Texas Tech. If he picks the Irish, that's a Champ Monds IV / Aidan O'Neil / Olubobola / Folorunsho front four at the top of the 2027 class - the kind of week that defines a recruiting cycle.

USC rivalry talks have meaningful movement. Per a Los Angeles Times report Monday, Notre Dame is now willing to discuss playing the game earlier in the season - that was the sticking point that killed the prior negotiations (USC wanted Week 0, ND said no). Source called it "optimistic a deal could be reached." Earliest realistic restart is 2030. Worth tracking but nothing to circle on a calendar yet.

Schedule logistics solidifying. NBC formally announced game times for the Shamrock Series opener and the home schedule - seven exclusive NBC/Peacock broadcasts including four primetime games: Wisconsin at Lambeau (Sun Sept 6, the opener), Michigan State (Sept 19), Miami (Nov 7), and SMU (Nov 21). Miami in primetime under the Stadium lights in November will be one of the marquee games of the regular season nationally.

Upcoming:

  • Fri May 15 - David Folorunsho 5-star DL commitment (Rivals YouTube)
  • Sun Sep 6 - vs. Wisconsin, Shamrock Series at Lambeau Field (season opener)

Last Result: Blue-Gold Game - Blue 41, Gold 40 (Sat Apr 25)

๐Ÿ€Women's Basketball

No news to report! Here's recent information in case you missed a previous newsletter:

Roster is essentially set for 2026-27. Hannah Hidalgo confirmed she's returning for her senior season with no intention of transferring - that's the load-bearing decision for the entire program. She's the reigning Naismith Defensive Player of the Year (first ND player ever, men's or women's) after breaking the NCAA single-season steals record with 202, and the first NCAA player this century to average 25/5/5/5. Around her: portal additions Anaya Hardy (Louisville) and Madison "Nat" St. Rose (Princeton, two-time All-Ivy) plus the No. 1 HS class headlined by McDonald's All-Americans Jacy Abii and Jenica Lewis. Coach Niele Ivey leads Team USA's U18 squad at the FIBA AmeriCup June 8-14 in Mexico, and ND opens in the inaugural Eternal City Tip-off Nov. 1 on Fox.

Upcoming: Summer workouts begin in late May.

๐ŸฅLacrosse

Quarterfinal preview is set. No. 2 Notre Dame (11-2) draws Johns Hopkins (10-5) Saturday May 16 at noon ET on ESPNU at James Shuart Stadium on Hofstra's campus. The Irish trail the all-time series 4-3 but have won the last two meetings - including the 12-9 win in the 2023 NCAA quarterfinals that started the run to ND's first national title. Hopkins is unseeded but no soft landing: they were ranked No. 9 in both major polls entering the tournament and knocked off defending champ Cornell 9-8 in OT in the first round. Coach Kevin Corrigan on the matchup: "They're playing very well. Watching them all year long, they've been kind of a team that doesn't say die and has come back a number of times." Notre Dame closed out a perfect 6-0 home record in the win over Jacksonville.

The bracket around them: UNC-Syracuse follows ND-Hopkins on Saturday at Hofstra; Duke-Georgetown plays Sunday in Newark, DE; Princeton-Penn State is the other Sunday game. Four ACC teams in the quarters (ND, UNC, Syracuse, Duke) - only the fifth time that's happened.

Upcoming:

  • Sat May 16 - Men's NCAA Quarterfinal vs. Johns Hopkins, noon ET, ESPNU (Hofstra)
  • Sat May 23 - Men's NCAA Semifinal (if advances), Scott Stadium, Charlottesville
  • Mon May 25 - Men's NCAA Championship Final (if advances), Charlottesville

Last Result:

  • Men: Beat Jacksonville 18-5 in NCAA First Round (Sun May 10)
  • Women: Lost to James Madison 13-12 in NCAA First Round (Fri May 8) - season over, 12-6

๐Ÿ“‹Around the Program

  • Baseball wraps the regular season at Pittsburgh this weekend. Three games at Charles L. Cost Field - Thu May 14 at 6 p.m., Fri May 15 at 3 p.m., Sat May 16 at 1 p.m. (Thursday on ACCNX). The Irish ride an 8-game win streak in after Monday's 16-6 run-rule of Dayton. ACC Tournament begins Tue May 19. This is the seeding window.

๐Ÿ”ดUtah Utes

๐ŸˆFootball

No news to report! Here's recent information in case you missed a previous newsletter:

Spring camp wrapped (no spring game by Morgan Scalley's call) and the headlines have all been transfer-portal management. Will Monney - a Utah native who started at Utah State, did a 2025 season at Oklahoma State - is heading home to play for the Utes. Noah Bennee (23 catches, 264 yards in 11 games at Weber State) joins the WR room. Add the previously announced kicker Tanner Cragun (UTEP, 6-of-8 FG) and DL recruit Tiki Teeples in the 2027 board. The rebuilt offensive line under first-year coach Jordan Gross took the most visible step forward in spring; Devon Dampier's command of new OC Kevin McGiven's offense remains the offseason variable to watch. Sept. 26 at Iowa State is still the Big 12 tone-setter; Sept. 3 vs. Idaho is the opener.

Upcoming:

  • Sept. 3 - vs. Idaho (season opener, Rice-Eccles)
  • Sept. 26 - at Iowa State (Big 12 opener)

๐ŸคธGymnastics

No news to report! Here's recent information in case you missed a previous newsletter:

Utah finished 2026 10th nationally, missing the NCAA Championship by 0.125 at the Corvallis Regional Final - the first time in 51 years the Red Rocks didn't make nationals after 49 consecutive appearances. Avery Neff was Big 12 Gymnast of the Year (7th AA, 4th floor at nationals as an individual qualifier); Ana Padurariu was Big 12 Specialist of the Year. Carly Dockendorf signed an extension through 2031, USA National Team coach Steve Arkell joined as bars coach, and Olympic silver medalist Grace McCallum is on staff as Student Assistant Coach. The 2027 freshman class is headlined by five-star Bailey Stroud plus internationals Gabrielle Black (Canada) and Ayla Miller (Minnesota).

Upcoming: 2027 season begins in January.

๐Ÿ“‹Around the Program

  • Baseball: one weekend left before Surprise. Utah is 11-16 Big 12 / 24-22 overall after the TCU sweep. The bullpen has been the bleed point. The Big 12 Tournament runs May 19-23 at Surprise Stadium - top 12 of 16 teams advance, and Utah's spot is on the bubble. This last regular-season weekend matters.

๐ŸŒฐOhio State Buckeyes

๐ŸˆFootball

"Tunnel Vision" is back. Ohio State unveiled new all-black uniforms yesterday - the first all-blacks since 2022. Black helmet, jersey, and pants, with the Buckeye Stripe rendered in metallic silver sleeves and a glossy (not matte) helmet finish flecked with silver. There's a festoon pattern inside the jersey collar pointing to Ohio Stadium's architecture. The reveal triggered a follow-the-leader social media reaction across the Big 12 - programs there raced to post their own all-blacks insisting theirs were better. National attention either way.

Ryan Day takes a side on the transfer rules debate. Day publicly supported a mandatory two-year commitment for student-athletes before they can enter the transfer portal. Quote: "I feel pretty strong about that." Notable, given Ohio State just imported 17 portal pieces - a coach who runs the portal heavily endorsing speed limits on it.

Schedule details locked in. Two more 2026 game times set: at Texas on Sept 12 - 7:30 p.m. on ABC (the Week 2 marquee), and The Game vs. Michigan on FOX at noon (announced Monday). The noon Michigan kickoff continues the recent FOX pattern.

Upcoming:

  • Aug 30 - season opener (Week 1)
  • Sept 12 - at Texas, 7:30 p.m. ABC
  • Nov 28 - vs. Michigan, noon FOX

๐Ÿ“‹Around the Program

  • Baseball heads to Michigan for the regular-season finale Thu-Sat May 14-16. First pitch Thursday at 6 p.m. ET in Ann Arbor. The Buckeyes (~26-23 area after the Wright State home finale last night) finished the home slate; this Michigan series sets B1G Tournament seeding. Worth following - series win pushes them up the bracket.

๐Ÿ”๏ธTreasure Valley

๐ŸŒช๏ธToday's Weather: Wind Advisory in Effect

Heads up: Wind Advisory noon to midnight tonight - west winds 25-35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph as the cold front comes through. Driving will be tough for high-profile vehicles, expect blowing dust, and elevated fire danger. Sharply cooler air behind the front. Outdoor plans should pivot to indoors after lunch if you have flexibility. Thursday tops out around 73ยฐF, Friday around 72ยฐF sunny - the weekend looks ideal again.

๐Ÿฝ๏ธFood & Drink
