βοΈNotre Dame Sports
πFootball
Folorunsho decision is tomorrow. Five-star DL David Folorunsho announces Friday May 15 on the Rivals YouTube channel - Notre Dame is the heavy favorite. He's a 247Sports composite top-50 (No. 43 overall, No. 3 DL, No. 2 in Illinois) and has multiple Irish ties at his school: St. Patrick HS head coach Tom Zbikowski is a former ND safety, school president Dan Santucci is a former ND offensive lineman, and Folorunsho trains with Kerry Neal, another ex-Irish DL. Rivals analyst Steve Wiltfong now frames the finalists as "Notre Dame and Miami" - Texas Tech's earlier projection looks shakier. A Folorunsho commit on the heels of Olubobola gives Freeman three of the top defensive/OL prospects in the 2027 class in a single ten-day stretch.
Class trajectory. The 2027 class is fourth nationally per 247Sports with 15 commits - well ahead of Ohio State's pace at this point in their 2026 cycle. Olubobola sits at composite No. 17 overall, No. 2 OT.
Around the program: CJ Carr's pre-snap mastery is the spring story. Reporting from inside Mike Denbrock's room has Carr running the protections and check system more confidently than a year ago, with the staff letting him do more at the line. With Love and Price both gone to the NFL Draft, Carr is the load-bearing figure for the offense.
Upcoming:
- Fri May 15 - David Folorunsho 5-star DL commitment (Rivals YouTube)
- Sun Sep 6 - vs. Wisconsin, Shamrock Series at Lambeau Field (season opener)
Last Result: Blue-Gold Game - Blue 41, Gold 40 (Sat Apr 25)
πWomen's Basketball
No news to report! Here's recent information in case you missed a previous newsletter:
Roster is essentially set for 2026-27 and Hannah Hidalgo confirmed she's back for her senior year - the load-bearing decision for the program. She's the reigning Naismith Defensive Player of the Year (first ND player ever, men's or women's) after breaking the NCAA single-season steals record with 202. Around her: portal additions Anaya Hardy (Louisville) and Madison "Nat" St. Rose (Princeton) plus the No. 1 HS class headlined by McDonald's All-Americans Jacy Abii and Jenica Lewis. Coach Niele Ivey is running Team USA's U18 squad at the FIBA AmeriCup June 8-14 in Mexico, and ND opens in the inaugural Eternal City Tip-off Nov. 1 on Fox.
Upcoming: Summer workouts begin in late May.
π₯Lacrosse
Two days out from Hopkins. No. 2 Notre Dame (11-2) takes on Johns Hopkins (10-5) Saturday May 16 at noon ET on ESPNU at James Shuart Stadium on Hofstra's campus in Hempstead, NY. Kevin Corrigan leaned into Lou Holtz-mode this week describing the buildup: "You know, I came here when Lou Holtz was here, right? And, you know, I adopted some of his ways, one of which is on Monday, we suck. On Tuesday, we're not much betterβ¦" - peaking on Saturday is the framework.
Hopkins is dangerous. They beat defending champion Cornell 9-8 in overtime in the first round - their sixth one-goal game of the season and fourth late comeback. Notre Dame leads the all-time series 4-3 but has won the last two meetings, including the 12-9 win in the 2023 NCAA quarterfinals that kicked off ND's first national title run. Luke Miller's career-high six-point day (5G, 1A) carried the 18-5 first-round win over Jacksonville on Mother's Day, tying the program's all-time NCAA Tournament goals-in-a-game record.
The bracket around them: UNC-Syracuse follows on Saturday at Hofstra; Duke-Georgetown and Princeton-Penn State play Sunday in Newark, DE.
Upcoming:
- Sat May 16 - Men's NCAA Quarterfinal vs. Johns Hopkins, noon ET, ESPNU (Hofstra)
- Sat May 23 - Men's NCAA Semifinal (if advances), Scott Stadium, Charlottesville
- Mon May 25 - Men's NCAA Championship Final (if advances), Charlottesville
Last Result:
- Men: Beat Jacksonville 18-5 in NCAA First Round (Sun May 10)
- Women: Lost to James Madison 13-12 in NCAA First Round (Fri May 8) - season over, 12-6
πAround the Program

π΄Utah Utes
πFootball
No news to report! Here's recent information in case you missed a previous newsletter:
Spring camp wrapped (no spring game by Morgan Scalley's call) and the offseason has been all transfer-portal management. The recently announced salary sheet has Scalley at $5.1M base, OC Kevin McGiven at $1.1M and DC Colton Swan at $850K. Roster moves: Will Monney (Utah native, started at Utah State, did 2025 at Oklahoma State) is heading home; Noah Bennee (23 catches, 264 yards at Weber State) joins the WR room; previously announced kicker Tanner Cragun (UTEP) and 2027 DL recruit Tiki Teeples round it out. The rebuilt offensive line under first-year coach Jordan Gross took the most visible step forward in spring; Devon Dampier's command of McGiven's new offense remains the offseason variable. Sept. 26 at Iowa State is the Big 12 tone-setter; Sept. 3 vs. Idaho is the opener.
Upcoming:
- Sept. 3 - vs. Idaho (season opener, Rice-Eccles)
- Sept. 26 - at Iowa State (Big 12 opener)
π€ΈGymnastics
No news to report! Here's recent information in case you missed a previous newsletter:
Utah finished 2026 10th nationally, missing the NCAA Championship by 0.125 at the Corvallis Regional Final - the first time in 51 years the Red Rocks didn't make nationals after 49 consecutive appearances. Avery Neff was Big 12 Gymnast of the Year (7th AA, 4th floor at nationals as an individual qualifier); Ana Padurariu was Big 12 Specialist of the Year. Carly Dockendorf signed an extension through 2031, USA National Team coach Steve Arkell joined as bars coach, and Olympic silver medalist Grace McCallum is on staff as Student Assistant Coach. The 2027 freshman class is headlined by five-star Bailey Stroud plus internationals Gabrielle Black (Canada) and Ayla Miller (Minnesota).
Upcoming: 2027 season begins in January.
πAround the Program
- Baseball: last weekend before Surprise. Utah is 24-22 overall / 11-16 Big 12 area heading into the regular-season finale - the bullpen has been the bleed point. The Big 12 Tournament runs May 19-23 at Surprise Stadium, top 12 of 16 advance, and Utah's spot is bubble territory. Win this weekend and they're in; drop the series and they're sweating other results.

Upcoming:
- Aug 30 - season opener (Week 1)
- Sept 12 - at Texas, 7:30 p.m. ABC

The Buckeyes are 26-23 overall / 15-12 Big Ten, one slot behind 32-19 / 17-10 Michigan. The Wolverines ride a seven-straight conference series-win streak in and have swept the last four meetings with OSU including the 23-1 opener in Columbus last year - that history is the subplot. B1G Tournament seeding rides on this one.
