☘️Notre Dame Sports

🏈Football

Folorunsho is in. Five-star DL David Folorunsho committed to Notre Dame Friday afternoon, choosing the Irish over Miami, Texas Tech, Georgia, and Michigan. The 6-foot-3, 285-pound Chicago St. Patrick prospect is ranked No. 9 overall in the 2027 class and the No. 2 defensive lineman nationally by Rivals. The 247Sports take: arguably the biggest defensive verbal of Marcus Freeman's five-year tenure - and if Folorunsho holds in the top 32 and signs in December, he'd be Notre Dame's first five-star-caliber defensive tackle since Steve Niehaus in 1972. That's the kind of historical bar that gets used loosely; this one isn't loose.

On his decision, Folorunsho cited Coach Partridge ("the best developer out of my top five schools"), Coach Freeman, and the community fit. The pipeline of ND ties at his school - head coach Tom Zbikowski (former ND safety), school president Dan Santucci (former ND OL), and trainer Kerry Neal (former ND DL) - clearly held up.

Class trajectory. The 2027 class now sits No. 5 nationally after the Folorunsho add, on the heels of last week's Olubobola commitment. Freeman has stacked three of the top defensive/OL prospects in the 2027 class in a ten-day stretch - exactly the kind of front-seven recruiting Notre Dame has been chasing.

Around the program: Spring is officially in the rearview, summer workouts begin shortly. The 2026 schedule preview is locked: Shamrock Series at Lambeau opens vs Wisconsin Sept. 6.

Upcoming:

  • Sun Sep 6 - vs. Wisconsin, Shamrock Series at Lambeau Field (season opener)

Last Result: Blue-Gold Game - Blue 41, Gold 40 (Sat Apr 25)

🏀Women's Basketball

No news to report! Here's recent information in case you missed a previous newsletter:

Hannah Hidalgo's "Run It Back" remains the program's load-bearing decision. The reigning Naismith Defensive Player of the Year averaged 25.3 / 6.9 / 5.2 / 5.6 (points, rebounds, assists, steals) this past season - the only DI player since 1999-00 to average ≥25/5/5/5 over a full season. She's now a three-time Wooden Award All-American. Around her: portal additions Anaya Hardy (Louisville) and Madison "Nat" St. Rose (Princeton) plus the No. 1 HS class headlined by McDonald's All-Americans Jacy Abii and Jenica Lewis. Coach Niele Ivey is leading Team USA's U18 squad at the FIBA AmeriCup June 8-14 in Mexico. ND opens the season in the Eternal City Tip-off Nov. 1 on Fox.

Upcoming: Summer workouts begin in late May.

🥍Lacrosse

Final Four, eighth time. No. 2 Notre Dame beat Johns Hopkins 15-9 at Hofstra's Shuart Stadium this morning to advance to the NCAA semifinals. Tyler Spano dominated the X at 13-of-21 on faceoffs with 10 ground balls. Notre Dame moves to 12-2 and reaches championship weekend for the third time in four seasons.

The road from here: Saturday May 23 at 2:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2 at Scott Stadium in Charlottesville, against the winner of UNC-Syracuse (which plays this afternoon at Hofstra). Title game is Monday May 25 at the same venue.

🔴Utah Utes

🏈Football

No news to report! Here's recent information in case you missed a previous newsletter:

The Scalley era is in the slow-build offseason phase. Spring camp wrapped with no spring game by Scalley's call. The salary sheet is public: Scalley $5.1M base, OC Kevin McGiven $1.1M, DC Colton Swan $850K, GM Joe D'Orazio $350K. Roster moves running in the background: Will Monney home from Oklahoma State; Noah Bennee (23/264 at Weber State) to the WR room; kicker Tanner Cragun (UTEP); 2027 DL recruit Tiki Teeples. The rebuilt OL under Jordan Gross was the most visible spring step forward; Devon Dampier's command of McGiven's offense is still the offseason variable. Sept. 26 at Iowa State is the Big 12 tone-setter; Sept. 3 vs. Idaho is the opener.

Upcoming:

  • Sept. 3 - vs. Idaho (season opener, Rice-Eccles)
  • Sept. 26 - at Iowa State (Big 12 opener)

🤸Gymnastics

No news to report! Here's recent information in case you missed a previous newsletter:

Utah finished 2026 10th nationally, missing the NCAA Championship by 0.125 at the Corvallis Regional Final - the first time in 51 years the Red Rocks didn't make nationals. Avery Neff was Big 12 Gymnast of the Year; Ana Padurariu was Big 12 Specialist of the Year. Carly Dockendorf signed through 2031, USA National Team coach Steve Arkell joined as bars coach, and Olympic silver medalist Grace McCallum is on staff as Student Assistant. The 2027 signing class is headlined by five-star Bailey Stroud, Canadian National Team gymnast Gabrielle Black, four-star Ayla Miller, and rising Madison Denlinger.

Upcoming: 2027 season begins in January.

📋Around the Program

  • Baseball heads into the regular-season finale weekend. Utah is bubble territory for the Big 12 Tournament at Surprise Stadium May 19-23 - top 12 of 16 advance. Win this weekend's series and they're in; drop it and they're sweating other results.

🌰Ohio State Buckeyes

🏈Football

No news to report! Here's recent information in case you missed a previous newsletter:

Spring's wrapped - summer workouts incoming. Julian Sayin is QB1 for 2026 with Jeremiah Smith returning for Year 3 and four of five OL starters back. USA Today's post-spring top 25 has OSU No. 1, ahead of Notre Dame. The Buckeyes also unveiled their "Tunnel Vision" all-black uniforms (first all-blacks since 2022) plus refreshed home/away looks with the silver sleeve stripe back. Recruiting heater continues: 5-star WR commit Jamier Brown has officially shut down his recruitment; OSU has three crystal balls for 4-star EDGE Wyatt Smith (No. 11 at position, FL). Schedule windows locked: at Texas Sept 12 at 7:30 p.m. on ABC (College GameDay confirmed), vs Michigan Nov 28 at noon on FOX.

Upcoming:

  • Sept 5 - vs. Ball State (season opener)
  • Sept 12 - at Texas, 7:30 p.m. ABC
  • Nov 28 - vs. Michigan, noon FOX

📋Around the Program

  • Buckeyes have flipped the Michigan series script. OSU won Game 1 13-2 Thursday (Dane Harvey tied OSU's single-season home run record) and took Game 2 8-5 Friday after Michigan's ninth-inning comeback fell short. Game 3 is 1:00 p.m. ET today at Ray Fisher Stadium (B1G+) - a series sweep would be the Buckeyes' answer to Michigan's seven-straight-conference-series-win streak coming in.

The Boise Post is open. The 16th-floor restaurant at the new AC Hotel Boise Downtown / Element by Marriott opened this week - described as the "crown jewel" of the hotel, seats up to 140, panoramic views of downtown and the foothills, and a "glocal" menu with international influences anchored in local ingredients. This is the rooftop you've been hearing about since the hotel topped out.

Eastside Tavern pours its last drink tonight. After 15 years (and a relocation from 610 E. Boise Ave. to 1228 S. Oakland in 2022), the neighborhood bar's run ends Saturday. If you've been meaning to go for old times' sake, this is the window.

Other carryover: Copow Foods opened May 9 in the North End (2753 W. State St.) - pre-made meals with organic, seasonal ingredients. Descanso opens Fri May 22 at The Boardwalk. Spitfire and Ground Rules soft-open late May. Cactus Southwest Kitchen & Bar (Seattle) takes the old P.F. Chang's BoDo space for a fall opening.
