🏈Football - Irish Invasion Day, Fakatou OV in Austin
Today is Irish Invasion + Fakatou-to-Texas day. The annual Irish Invasion camp lands on campus this afternoon - around 100 prospects from the 2027 and 2028 classes are coming through for skill work and 1-on-1s, with the staff's Grill and Chill recruiting event in the evening for underclassmen already in town. Public preview from On3 calls out an unnamed 6-3, 220 EDGE prospect who "did not lose a rep" in 1-on-1s in earlier camp work, and a quick defensive back as the other standouts to watch. Expect a wave of new offers to drop out of today's session.
Fakatou begins his Texas leg today. Marcus Fakatou (5-star DL, Sierra Canyon, No. 2 nationally at the position, 6-7 / 275) is on the ground in Austin through Sunday. The full OV map remains Ohio State (closed May 31) → Texas (today) → Oregon June 12-14 → Notre Dame June 15-17 with the Irish in the closing slot. Earlier in the week Rivals' Wiltfong and Gorney both flipped predictions to Ohio State, so the Buckeyes are the public consensus frontrunner heading into the trip; the Marcus Freeman OV-closer track record is the structural argument the Irish are leaning on.
2027 class context. With Hunter Shelton (DB) on Wednesday and Brian Jones on Monday this week, ND's 2027 class continues to push up the national board - defensive coverage is calling the front seven "loaded" with the Vaughn / Sesay / Folorunsho / O'Neil group as the through-line. The visible weakness remains tight end (Malik Howard still the lead target, Oregon as the late threat).
Track and field calendar. Eugene is still next week: Obiora Okeke (shot put, 19.32m / 63'4¾"), Amaya Aramini (10,000m), and Sophie Novak (3,000m steeplechase) at the NCAA Outdoor Championships June 10-13.
Upcoming:
- Today (Fri Jun 5) - Irish Invasion camp + Grill and Chill (2027/2028 prospects on campus)
- Today–Sun (Jun 5-7) - Fakatou OV at Texas
- June 11-13 - Julius Jones Jr. (WR, legacy) OV at Notre Dame
- ~Weekend of June 12 - David Folorunsho OV at Notre Dame
- June 12-14 - Fakatou OV at Oregon
- June 10-13 - NCAA Outdoor Track Championships, Eugene (Okeke / Aramini / Novak)
- June 15-17 - Marcus Fakatou OV at Notre Dame (closing slot)
- June 19-21 - Albert Simien (OL) + Segun Alexander (DL) OVs
- June 27 - Julius Jones Jr. commitment announcement
- Sun Sep 6 - vs. Wisconsin, Shamrock Series at Lambeau Field (7:30 p.m. ET, NBC/Peacock)
Last Result: Blue-Gold Game - Blue 41, Gold 40 (Sat Apr 25).

Niele Ivey heads to Mexico Sunday-ish as head coach of the 2026 U.S. U18 National Team - FIBA U18 AmeriCup runs June 9-15 in Irapuato, Group B against Argentina (Jun 9), Mexico (Jun 10), Paraguay (Jun 12). Robyn Fralick (Michigan State) and Charmin Smith (Cal) on staff. Team USA is chasing its 12th straight gold overall and an eighth-consecutive U18 AmeriCup title specifically. Back in South Bend, Hannah Hidalgo returns for her senior year off a junior season that set the NCAA single-season steals record at 202, plus the Naismith and WBCA Defensive Player of the Year. Louisville frontcourt transfer Anaya Hardy (6-3, 4.9 ppg / 4.2 rpg, .667 FG% at Louisville) was the program's first portal add in April - fills the post hole left by Cowles, Sanchez and Prosper.
Upcoming: Niele Ivey leads Team USA U18 at FIBA AmeriCup June 9-15 (Irapuato, Mexico). 2026-27 season opens Nov. 1 vs. Villanova in Rome (Eternal City Tip-off, Fox/FS1).

The Tewaaraton ceremony in D.C. (May 28) remains the offseason headline - Shawn Lyght became the first defenseman in award history to win it, joining Pat Kavanagh (2024) as the only Notre Dame players to win college lacrosse's top individual honor. Schmeisser Award for the second straight year, ACC Co-Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight year. The 2027 men's roster will be the first since 2020 without a Kavanagh leading the attack, but Dylan Faison, the No. 1 ranked 2026 recruit, has reclassified and is on campus, eligible for next spring. Kevin Corrigan returns for his 38th season.
Last Result (men): Lost 16-9 to No. 1 Princeton in NCAA Championship (Mon May 25).
🔴Utah Utes
🏈Football - OV Weekend Today, Stewart Locks In as First Proof Point
The big OV weekend starts today. Morgan Scalley's first major recruiting showcase has nine confirmed officials on campus through Sunday - Tye Kennedy (3-star OT, AZ, July 1 decision), Cam Pettijohn (LB), Kelvin Eiwo (OL), Josh Christensen (EDGE), Gecova Doyal, Lincoln Mageo (4-star interior OL), Blake Wong (4-star WR), Brody Rudnicki (3-star QB, California), and Darrod Jacobs (3-star safety). Already-committed DL Tiki Teeples is back on campus to anchor the visit experience. Wider list than the early-week scouting hinted.
Sire Stewart already committed. The 3-star interior OL (6-5, 255, Chandler, AZ) locked in Tuesday night before even taking his planned Boise State and Washington State trips - the first Scalley/Gross/D'Orazio proof point and Utah's fourth 2027 commit (joining Henderson, Teeples, and Mailei). KSL's read this morning calls Lincoln Mageo's recruitment the one to watch on this weekend: he's narrowed to Utah, Michigan, and Washington with a July 11 commitment date, and Utah is sitting in genuine contention.
The GM pitch is the differentiator the staff is leading with. On3's longer piece this week framed Joe D'Orazio's data-driven recruiting blueprint - a modeled $546,000 estimated upside to staying put through a four-year career, rooted in NIL/portal churn cost - as the headline argument families are hearing. Combined with Scalley's "We have everything we need to win big here" continuity pitch, that's the first-cycle operational identity coming into view.
Rice-Eccles debut now 90 days out. Sept. 3 vs. Idaho (Thursday night) - first matchup with the Vandals since 1993.
Upcoming:
- Today–Sun (Jun 5-7) - Kennedy, Pettijohn, Eiwo, Christensen, Doyal, Mageo, Wong, Rudnicki, Jacobs OVs (big weekend)
- June 12 - Ben Rainwater (2027 OL) OV
- June 21 - Jag Ioane (DE) OV
- July 1 - Tye Kennedy commitment decision
- July 11 - Lincoln Mageo commitment decision
- Thu Sept 3 - vs. Idaho, Rice-Eccles (Scalley's HC debut)
- Sept 12 - vs. Arkansas (Rice-Eccles)
- Sept 19 - vs. Utah State (Rice-Eccles)
🤸Gymnastics
No news to report! Here's recent information in case you missed a previous newsletter:
Avery Neff capped 2026 with WCGA Region 2 Gymnast of the Year, Big 12 Gymnast of the Year (sweeping AA, bars, and floor), team MVP, three perfect 10s, and a 7th AA / 4th floor finish at NCAAs as an individual qualifier. She enters 2027 as an 8x All-American and the unambiguous centerpiece of a Utah team that finished 10th nationally (197.500) and missed the NCAA Championship by 0.125 - the first time in the program's 51-year history it sat out nationals after a record 49-consecutive appearances. Carly Dockendorf is extended through 2031; bars coach Steve Arkell joined in April. Latest offseason note: Mike Hunger added as assistant (vault lead, floor assist, 50+ years of experience), and Maile O'Keefe returns as a student assistant coach.
Upcoming: 2027 season opens January.
🌰Ohio State Buckeyes
🏈Football - Gabriel-Georges in Knoxville Today, Six-OV Weekend, Edmunds Eyebrow-Raiser
Gabriel-Georges OV at Tennessee starts today. The 5-star RB (No. 1 target of the cycle per 247 framing) closed his Ohio State OV last weekend and is in Knoxville now through Sunday. Ohio State has picked up its second crystal-ball pick in the recruitment - momentum still publicly tilts to the Buckeyes - but Rocky Top Insider's framing this week argued Tennessee should not be written off given Locklyn's relationship history and the in-state ties the Vols staff cultivated. Ole Miss (June 12) and Georgia (June 19) close the cycle ahead of his July 22 commitment.
Six officials on campus this weekend, too. Ohio State's own OV slate from June 5-7 ticked up from four to six over the week as the visitor list "continued to evolve" - On3 has a paywalled breakdown of where the program stands with each. Public coverage flagged the second-weekend group as a meaningful step-up in priority targets after a quieter first week.
The Brady Edmunds situation is the eyebrow-raiser. Edmunds, the lone 2027 QB commit (6-5, Huntington Beach, CA, committed since December 2024), is taking an OV to UCLA this weekend - his hometown school - before returning to Columbus for his OSU OV June 19-21. His quote: "Everything is fine with Ohio State…but I don't want to close the door on anyone right now." UCLA and Northwestern have been the most aggressive on him. The staff still wants two QBs in the class and Nebraska commit Trae Taylor remains the secondary target the room is watching.
Fakatou tracker. Same recruitment as the ND section above - Buckeyes still the public frontrunner per the Rivals predictions, but it's a structural battle through three more visits.
Ticket calendar. OSU mini-plans on sale June 16 (10 a.m. ET), general-public single-game tickets June 26 (10 a.m. ET).
Upcoming:
- Today–Sun (Jun 5-7) - Gabriel-Georges OV at Tennessee; OSU hosts six officials
- Jun 5-7 - Marcus Fakatou OV at Texas
- June 12 - Gabriel-Georges OV at Ole Miss
- June 16 - OSU mini-plans on sale
- June 19 - Gabriel-Georges OV at Georgia

- June 26 - OSU single-game tickets on sale (public)
- July 22 - Gabriel-Georges commitment

- Sept 12 - at Texas (7:30 p.m., ABC)
- Nov 28 - vs. Michigan (noon, FOX, Ohio Stadium)

Apex's new outdoor-party-zone concept at The Boardwalk runs 3 p.m. to sunset every Friday through Labor Day - vendors, cocktails, live music, dancing, full plaza activated. Winners announced June 15 in Chicago. Both are credible date-night-tonight options if the Boardwalk doesn't appeal.
