☘️Notre Dame Sports

🥍Lacrosse

Men survive Duke, 7-6. The No. 1 Irish (9-1, 2-1 ACC) held on at Koskinen Stadium as Duke scored three of the final four goals and pulled within one with eight seconds left before time ran out. A grind-it-out result against a ranked ACC opponent - exactly the kind of tournament-style game the committee will remember. Syracuse comes to South Bend next Saturday to close the regular season.

Women await Clemson on Wednesday. No. 6 Notre Dame (12-4) gets No. 3 Clemson in the ACC Tournament quarterfinal at 8 PM ET Wednesday in Charlotte (ACC Network). Still four days out, but it's the bracket everyone wanted to watch - two of the league's hottest offenses.

Upcoming:

  • Women's: vs. #3 Clemson (ACC Tournament QF) - Wed, April 22, 8:00 PM ET (ACCN)
  • Men's: vs. Syracuse - Sat, April 25, 12:00 PM ET (home, ACCNX)

Last Results:

  • Men's: W 7-6 at #16 Duke (April 18)
  • Women's: W 18-3 vs. Louisville (April 16)

🏀Women's Basketball

Portal window closes tomorrow - Audi Crooks still silent. Monday, April 20 is the deadline for players to enter the portal, not commit from it, so her decision may stretch past this week. The 6-3 Iowa State center (25.8 PPG) still follows ND WBB's Instagram, Niele Ivey, Hidalgo, and KK Bransford - nothing further has leaked publicly. UConn, South Carolina, and Texas remain in the mix. If NIL doesn't line up with her reported north-of-half-a-million ask, Crooks could skip college entirely and declare for the WNBA Draft.

Last Result: Elite Eight - UConn 70, Notre Dame 52 (March 29)

🏈Football

Blue-Gold Game six days out - Saturday, April 25, 2:00 PM ET on Peacock. Tickets still start at $10. Marcus Freeman's group is deep into the final stretch of spring - ESPN's way-too-early poll has the Irish at No. 4, CJ Carr remains a Heisman frontrunner, and Notre Dame still leads the country in returning production (67% offense, 77% defense). Running back room is thin: Aneyas Williams in a no-contact brace for an elbow, freshman Kedren Young out with a torn ACL, Javian Osborne recovering from wrist surgery.

Upcoming: Blue-Gold Game - Sat, April 25, 2:00 PM ET (Peacock) Season Opener: Sept. 6 at Wisconsin (Shamrock Series, Lambeau Field, NBC)

📋Around the Program

  • Baseball: FSU won 9-7 Friday night to clinch the series in Tallahassee. The No. 8 Seminoles led 9-2 in the fifth, but Notre Dame brought the tying run to the plate in each of the final four innings before coming up short. Series finale today at 1 PM ET - the Irish try to avoid the sweep after the 11-0 run-rule loss Thursday.

🔴Utah Utes

🥍Lacrosse

First shutout in program history. Utah dominated Queens at Ute Field on Saturday to finish ASUN play perfect and capture the first shutout in program history. Final scoreline wasn't widely posted yet, but the Utes - ranked 20th - close the regular season next Saturday at home against Air Force, a rematch of last year's ASUN Championship. With PLL-drafted Ryan Stines and Nikko DiPonio still anchoring the offense, Utah has looked the part of a conference title favorite all month.

Upcoming: vs. Air Force - Sat, April 25 (home, regular-season finale) Last Result: W, shutout over Queens (April 18)

🏈Football

Week 3 of spring practice continues under the pads. Yesterday's 22 For U Fan Day - Morgan Scalley's replacement for a traditional spring game - drew fans to the Spence Eccles Field House for autographs and drills. The roster has added 38 new players this cycle with five or so more expected before fall camp. Scalley said he's "excited with the progress" through the first seven workouts and wanted the 15th practice more than a scrimmage.

Season Opener: Sept. 3 vs. Idaho (home)

🤸Gymnastics

Offseason. Oklahoma beat LSU 198.1625 to 198.0750 in Fort Worth to win its eighth NCAA title. The Red Rocks wrapped their season Thursday with Neff, Padurariu, and Zirbes posting strong individual finals.

🌰Ohio State Buckeyes

🏈Football

Gray Defense 35, Scarlet Offense 26. Before 40,240 at the Horseshoe, Ohio State's defense overcame a fast offensive start to take the modified-scoring spring game. The highlights:

  • Chris Henry Jr. arrives. The five-star freshman WR caught 4 passes for 96 yards and a 40-yard touchdown from redshirt freshman Tavien St. Clair (9-for-21, 166 yards) on two deep connections in the first quarter.
  • Julian Sayin opened the scoring with a 4-yard TD run on the game's first drive - exactly the mobility Ryan Day wants to use this fall.
  • Connor Hawkins hit a 46-yard field goal on his first career attempt; a 42-yarder later. Luke Fahey ripped a 61-yard TD run late.
  • Defense dominated Qs 2 and 3 - scoreless for the offense in both quarters. DE Beau Atkinson grabbed an interception on a Will Smith Jr. tip.
  • Earl Little Jr. underwent a knee cleanup procedure, per postgame.

NFL Draft (April 23-25, Pittsburgh) - four days away. All five Buckeye invitees are projected first-rounders: Arvell Reese, Sonny Styles, Carnell Tate, Caleb Downs, and Kayden McDonald. Four of them (Reese, Styles, Tate, Downs) are top-10 locks in most mocks - if that holds, Ohio State becomes just the third school ever with four top-10 picks in the same draft (Michigan State 1967, Notre Dame 1946).

Upcoming: NFL Draft - Thu, April 23 (Round 1, 8 PM ET) Season Opener: Sept. 5 vs. Ball State (home)
