โ˜˜๏ธNotre Dame Sports

๐ŸˆFootball

No news to report! Here's recent information in case you missed a previous newsletter:

The big story heading into the weekend was Friday's commitment from five-star DL David Folorunsho - the No. 9 overall prospect in the 2027 class, and what 247Sports called arguably the biggest defensive verbal of Marcus Freeman's tenure. The 2027 class now sits No. 5 nationally on the heels of last week's Olubobola commitment as well; Freeman has now stacked three top defensive/OL prospects in a ten-day stretch. Spring is fully in the rearview now - summer workouts shortly. The 2026 opener vs. Wisconsin at Lambeau Field is locked in for Sunday Sept. 6 on NBC.

Upcoming:

  • Sun Sep 6 - vs. Wisconsin, Shamrock Series at Lambeau Field (season opener)

Last Result: Blue-Gold Game - Blue 41, Gold 40 (Sat Apr 25)

๐Ÿ€Women's Basketball

No news to report! Here's recent information in case you missed a previous newsletter:

Hannah Hidalgo's "Run It Back" remains the program's load-bearing decision. The reigning Naismith Defensive Player of the Year averaged 25.3 / 6.9 / 5.2 / 5.6 (points, rebounds, assists, steals) this past season - the only DI player since 1999-00 to average โ‰ฅ25/5/5/5 over a full season. She's now a three-time Wooden Award All-American and set the single-tournament steals record (29 across four games) during the Irish's Elite Eight run. Around her: portal additions Anaya Hardy (Louisville) and Madison "Nat" St. Rose (Princeton) plus the No. 1 HS class headlined by McDonald's All-Americans Jacy Abii and Jenica Lewis. Coach Niele Ivey is leading Team USA's U18 squad at the FIBA AmeriCup June 8-14 in Mexico.

Upcoming: Summer workouts begin in late May. Season opener: Eternal City Tip-off Nov. 1 on Fox.

๐ŸฅLacrosse

Semifinal opponent is set - and it's Syracuse. No. 6 Syracuse beat No. 3 North Carolina 13-11 on Saturday to set up a date with No. 2 Notre Dame in Charlottesville on Saturday May 23. The other half of the bracket gets settled today: Princeton-Penn State and Georgetown-Duke play their quarterfinals in Newark, Delaware to fill the remaining semifinal slot. So the Irish know who, when, and where - and they have a week to prep for a Syracuse team that already knocked off a top-3 seed.

A reminder of how Notre Dame got here: a dominant 15-9 win over Johns Hopkins yesterday at Hofstra, with Josh Yago going off for 7 points (4G/3A) and Tyler Spano owning the X (13-of-21 faceoffs, 10 ground balls). Third championship weekend appearance in four seasons; the Irish move to 12-2.

Upcoming:

  • Sat May 23 - Men's NCAA Semifinal vs. Syracuse, time TBD (likely 12 or 2:30 p.m. ET), ESPN2 (Scott Stadium, Charlottesville)
  • Mon May 25 - Men's NCAA Championship Final (if advances), 1 p.m. ET on ESPN, Charlottesville

Last Result: Men beat Johns Hopkins 15-9 in NCAA Quarterfinal (Sat May 16).

๐Ÿ“‹Around the Program

  • Baseball took the Pitt series with a 21-10 blowout in the finale. The Irish hung 22 hits and 7 home runs at Charles L. Cost Field on Saturday - Drew Berkland with a multi-homer day, Mark Quatrani with hits and RBIs, and a 9-run sixth broke the game open. That clinched a 2-1 series win (Pitt had taken Thursday's opener; ND evened it Friday). ACC Tournament seeding is locked: Notre Dame is the No. 10 seed and plays No. 15 Clemson at 5 p.m. ET Tuesday May 19 to open tournament play. Final regular-season record: 30-21 overall, 13-17 ACC.

๐Ÿ”ดUtah Utes

๐ŸˆFootball

No news to report! Here's recent information in case you missed a previous newsletter:

The Scalley era is in the slow-build offseason phase. Spring camp wrapped with no spring game by Scalley's call. The salary sheet is public: Scalley $5.1M base, OC Kevin McGiven $1.1M, DC Colton Swan $850K, GM Joe D'Orazio $350K. Roster moves running in the background: Will Monney home from Oklahoma State; Noah Bennee (23/264 at Weber State) to the WR room; kicker Tanner Cragun (UTEP); 2027 DL recruit Tiki Teeples. Daniel Bray has stood out in spring and is contending for RB2 reps behind Wayshawn Parker. The rebuilt OL under Jordan Gross was the most visible spring step forward; Devon Dampier's command of McGiven's offense remains the offseason variable. Sept. 26 at Iowa State is the Big 12 tone-setter; Sept. 3 vs. Idaho is the opener.

Upcoming:

  • Sept. 3 - vs. Idaho (season opener, Rice-Eccles)
  • Sept. 26 - at Iowa State (Big 12 opener)

๐ŸคธGymnastics

No news to report! Here's recent information in case you missed a previous newsletter:

Utah finished 2026 10th nationally, missing the NCAA Championship by 0.125 at the Corvallis Regional Final - the first time in 51 years the Red Rocks didn't make nationals. Avery Neff was Big 12 Gymnast of the Year; Ana Padurariu was Big 12 Specialist of the Year. Carly Dockendorf signed through 2031, USA National Team coach Steve Arkell joined as bars coach, and Olympic silver medalist Grace McCallum is on staff as Student Assistant. The 2027 signing class is headlined by five-star Bailey Stroud, Canadian National Team gymnast Gabrielle Black, four-star Ayla Miller, and rising Madison Denlinger.

Upcoming: 2027 season begins in January.

๐Ÿ“‹Around the Program

  • Utah baseball is in the Big 12 Tournament. The Utes drew the No. 10 seed at Surprise Stadium and open play Tuesday May 19 at 8 p.m. against No. 11 Kansas State - straight bracket, win-and-advance for now. Top 12 of 16 made it; this is the bubble-survives outcome the program needed coming off the regular-season finale weekend.

๐ŸŒฐOhio State Buckeyes

๐ŸˆFootball

No news to report! Here's recent information in case you missed a previous newsletter:

Spring's wrapped - summer workouts incoming. Julian Sayin is QB1 for 2026 with Jeremiah Smith returning for Year 3 and four of five OL starters back. USA Today's post-spring top 25 has OSU No. 1, ahead of Notre Dame. The Buckeyes unveiled their "Tunnel Vision" all-black uniforms (first all-blacks since 2022) plus refreshed home/away looks with the silver sleeve stripe back. The 2026 recruiting class signed in at No. 6 nationally per 247Sports (USC sits No. 1) - five-star WR Jamier Brown has officially shut down his recruitment, and Composite five-stars Chris Henry Jr., Cincere Johnson and Jay Timmons lead seven OSU signees in the final top 75. Recruiting wrinkle: Ohio State will have three new kickers on the 2026 roster - Notre Dame transfer Marcello Diomede has committed as a walk-on. Schedule windows locked: at Texas Sept 12 at 7:30 p.m. on ABC (College GameDay confirmed), vs Michigan Nov 28 at noon on FOX.

Upcoming:

  • Sept 5 - vs. Ball State (season opener)
  • Sept 12 - at Texas, 7:30 p.m. ABC
  • Nov 28 - vs. Michigan, noon FOX

๐Ÿ“‹Around the Program

  • Buckeyes swept Michigan in Ann Arbor. OSU closed it out 8-1 on Saturday at the Wilpon Complex after winning 13-2 Thursday and 7-3 Friday - a three-game broom of the in-state rival. The historical weight is real: Michigan's first home series loss to Ohio State since 1999 and their first Big Ten home series loss of any kind since March. Both teams enter the Big Ten Tournament tied atop the conference standings, and Sayin-the-Buckeyes-are-hot is now an understatement. Dane Harvey powered the offense across the weekend after tying OSU's single-season home run record earlier in the series.

๐Ÿ”๏ธTreasure Valley

๐Ÿฝ๏ธFood & Drink

Mostly carryover from yesterday: The Boise Post - the 16th-floor rooftop restaurant at the new AC Hotel Boise Downtown / Element by Marriott - opened this past week (140 seats, panoramic downtown + foothills views, "glocal" menu). Eastside Tavern poured its last drink last night after 15 years; the Boise Ave./Oakland neighborhood bar is now closed. Copow Foods is open in the North End (2753 W. State St.) as of May 9. Descanso opens Friday May 22 at The Boardwalk. Cactus Southwest Kitchen & Bar (Seattle) is taking the old P.F. Chang's BoDo space for a fall opening. The STIL is expanding into Eagle (101 E. Riverside Dr., former Negranti Creamery spot) in a partnership with Bumble Coffee.

Weather note: Today shapes up similar to yesterday - partly cloudy, high near 54ยฐF, wind 18 mph. Cool but workable for the easy 22 - the lunch window is still the call if you want the warmest, calmest slice of the day.

๐Ÿ“ฐLocal Headlines

  • Idaho Primary Tuesday May 19. Polls 8 a.m.โ€“8 p.m. On the ballot: 1 U.S. Senate seat, both U.S. House seats, contested governor primaries in all three major parties, all 105 Idaho Legislature seats, statewide constitutional offices (SoS, AG, Treasurer, Controller, Superintendent of Public Instruction), judicial races, and county offices. Closed primary on the GOP side (registered Republicans only); Democratic primary is open to all registered voters. Absentee ballots must be returned by 8 p.m. on May 19 - if you have one sitting on the counter, today is the day to either fill it out or plan to drop it.
  • AC Boise pulled off a wild comeback win last night. 3-1 down at the half at Expo Idaho against Monterey Bay FC, the Boys in Blue scored three in eight minutes to start the second - Dominic Gasso in the 51st, Jake Crull off a header in the 53rd to tie. After Monterey's Nicholas Gordon picked up a second yellow in the 73rd, Thomas Amang netted the winner with about four minutes to go: AC Boise 4, Monterey Bay 3. Sellout crowd, home unbeaten run intact.
  • Carryover reminders: AC Boise's Idaho-inspired away kit and Basque-inspired keeper kit are on sale. Floor & Decor opened its first Treasure Valley location on W Chinden in Eagle. Roaring Springs opened weekends with new water thrill ride The Hive. HP exit from Boise site in 2027 remains the longer-term redevelopment storyline.
