Good morning. Here's your personal read.

🏃Training

🏃Today's Plan

🎯 10K - 2026-06-20 (25 days out) Phase: build → taper starts 2026-06-15 (20 days) This week: Two hard days (Monday tempo, Wednesday intervals) plus a Saturday long run; everything else easy. Next week: Finish taper and race-week shakeouts. Why today: Mon tempo and Wed intervals build race-specific fitness for the 10K; Sat long run builds durability; easy days protect the work. After this: Half Marathon on 2026-10-11 (137 days out)

🏃 Today (Tuesday): 22-min easy run · 8-min abs · 5-min stretch Target pace: 9:30–10:00/mi (Z2, conversational) Build phase easy day - aerobic base work for 10K.

Best window: Lunch - 72°F, sunny, wind 13 mph

📊This Week

Wed: 4x400m at sub-7:00/mi, 90s jog rest · skip · 8-min stretch · pace sub-7:00/mi - Wednesday intervals - speed work, hard day #2 of the week Thu: 22-min easy run · 8-min abs · 5-min stretch · pace 9:30–10:00/mi - recovery from sprint

This week: 2 runs · 4.6 mi · 40 min Zone check: insufficient data this week (2 runs, 40 min) - keep building consistency before zone targets become meaningful.

Recent runs:

  • Thu 05-21 · 1.3 mi · 11 min · 8:20/mi (Z3)
  • Fri 05-22 · 2.7 mi · 26 min · 9:44/mi (easy)

☘️Notre Dame Sports

🥍Lacrosse - Princeton Wins the Title

It got away early. Notre Dame jumped to a 3-0 lead inside the first five minutes, and then Princeton scored 11 unanswered to take an 11-3 halftime lead the Irish never recovered from. Final: Princeton 16, Notre Dame 9 at Scott Stadium in Charlottesville. The Tigers claim their seventh title and first since 2001; Notre Dame's bid for a third championship in four years ends here.

Chad Palumbo got loose. Princeton's attackman scored four - all in the first half - and Colin Burns added a hat trick. For the Irish, Will Angrick and Josh Yago led the box score with two goals apiece; Dylan Faison and Luke Miller added one each. Yago, who was a seven-point monster in the semifinal vs. Syracuse, couldn't find that same rhythm under the Princeton ride and defensive press. The Tigers' man-up and transition game - the same things ND knew were coming - were the difference.

The big-picture story is still strong. Three NCAA Final appearances in four years, two championships (2023, 2024), and a defense built around junior Shawn Lyght (ACC Co-DPOY, Tewaaraton finalist) that held nine of 16 opponents to nine-or-fewer goals all year. Kevin Corrigan's 38th season finishes one win short. Reload starts now.

Last Result: Lost 16-9 to No. 1 Princeton in NCAA Championship (Mon May 25, Memorial Day).

🏈Football - Vaughn Announces Tonight, Fakatou Weekend Looms

Tonight at 6:30 p.m. ET. Jackson Vaughn - 6-4, 227 EDGE from Bergen Catholic (NJ), reclassified from 2028 to 2027 - announces his commitment, picking between Notre Dame, Auburn, LSU, Miami, and South Carolina. Notre Dame is the assumed leader; Wiltfong and the A to Z reporting both still tilt clearly Irish. He's a 4-star (No. 204 overall, No. 22 EDGE, No. 5 in NJ on the 247 Composite). A commitment tonight would pair him with EDGE Aidan O'Neil on what's already shaping up as an elite 2027 defensive front.

Fakatou weekend starts Friday. 5-star DL Marcus Fakatou (Sierra Canyon CA, 6-7/275, No. 2 DL in 2027 per Rivals) is in Columbus May 29-31 for his OV - his first of five. The full slate: Ohio State May 29-31, Georgia June 1-3, Texas June 5-7, Oregon June 12-14, Notre Dame last on June 15-17. Wiltfong and Gorney have already swung their predictions to Ohio State. The cliché is real: Larry Johnson is the gravitational pull, and the school he names first is usually who he picks. Freeman gets the closing slot, which has historically been Notre Dame's friend - but the predictions all run through Columbus right now.

Upcoming:

  • TODAY (Tue May 26, 6:30 p.m. ET) - Jackson Vaughn (EDGE) commitment announcement
  • May 29-31 - Marcus Fakatou OV at Ohio State
  • June 11-13 - Julius Jones Jr. (WR, legacy) official visit; commits June 23
  • June 15-17 - Marcus Fakatou ND official visit
  • Sun Sep 6 - vs. Wisconsin, Shamrock Series at Lambeau Field (7:30 p.m. ET, NBC/Peacock)

Last Result: Blue-Gold Game - Blue 41, Gold 40 (Sat Apr 25).

🏀Women's Basketball

No news to report! Here's recent information in case you missed a previous newsletter:

Hidalgo's return is locked in. In a USA TODAY Sports interview on May 19, she explained the call: "Notre Dame has just been a home for the past three years…the connections that I've built, the people that kind of surround me, I had no choice but to stay." She finishes 2025-26 with the NCAA single-season steals record (202), a three-time Wooden Award All-American (first in program history), and the only DI player since 1999-00 to average 25+ pts / 5+ reb / 5+ ast / 5+ stl across a season. The 2026 recruiting class is No. 5 nationally (McDonald's All-Americans Jacy Abii and Jenica Lewis), and 2027 opened with 5-star PF Eve Long (Olathe KS, composite No. 12).

Upcoming: Niele Ivey leads Team USA U18 at FIBA AmeriCup June 8-14 (Mexico). 2026-27 season opens Nov. 1 at the Eternal City Tip-off in Rome (Fox/FS1).

🔴Utah Utes

🏈Football - Spring Reports, Recruiting Heats Up

The QB picture is settled: Devon Dampier is QB1 again after a career-best 2025 (63.5% completion, 2,490 pass yds, 24:5 TD:INT, 835 rush yds, 10 rush TDs on an 11-2 team). Behind him, RB Daniel Bray made big spring strides and could push for a real share of carries, and TE Hunter Andrews - cleared midway through spring - worked his way onto the field by camp's end. That's three skill-position pieces with momentum heading into summer.

Recruiting: AZ DL Tiki Teeples committed to Utah this week, joining the 2027 class on the defensive side after months of recruitment. He's one of the top defensive line prospects out of the state. Utah is also actively in on a top 2027 California QB and continues to chase interior OL talent. Top-30 OL Gecova Doyal is in town May 29-31 for an OV (other finalists: UCLA, Oregon, Washington) - that visit is the headline of Memorial weekend in Salt Lake.

The broader through-line under Morgan Scalley remains the same: it's about the OL and DL development through summer. Replacing two first-round NFL OL picks is the project until September.

Upcoming:

  • May 29-31 - Gecova Doyal (top-30 OL) official visit
  • June 5 - Tye Kennedy (3-star OL) visit
  • Thu Sept 3 - vs. Idaho, Rice-Eccles (Scalley's HC debut)
  • Sept 12 - vs. Arkansas (Rice-Eccles)

🤸Gymnastics

No news to report! Here's recent information in case you missed a previous newsletter:

Deep offseason. Utah finished 2026 ranked 10th nationally, missing the NCAA Championship by 0.125 at the Corvallis Regional Final - ending the program's 49-year streak at nationals. Avery Neff swept Big 12 Gymnast of the Year (NQS leader on vault 9.920, bars 9.935, beam 9.925, AA 39.630) and finished 7th AA, 4th floor at NCAAs as an individual qualifier. Ana Padurariu took Big 12 Specialist of the Year. The program added bars coach Steve Arkell (USA National Team) in April; Olympic silver medalist Grace McCallum is now Student Assistant. Carly Dockendorf is extended through 2031.

Upcoming: 2027 season opens January.

🌰Ohio State Buckeyes

🏈Football - Roster Adds and the Fakatou Visit Weekend

Memorial weekend is the recruiting headline. 5-star DL Marcus Fakatou and 5-star RB David Gabriel-Georges are both in Columbus May 29-31 for OVs, with Wiltfong and Gorney already predicting Fakatou to the Buckeyes. WR Benny Easter and a stacked supporting visitor list are also in. Landing a Fakatou verbal that weekend would effectively close the most-watched 2027 DL race in the country before Notre Dame even gets its June 15-17 last look. Coach Larry Johnson remains the central pull.

Roster construction. OSU added 2026 kicker Cooper Peterson to the placekicking room. Former Houston Christian punter Brady Young transferred in for a sixth-year senior season. The transfer haul also includes former LSU WR Kyle Parker, Georgia CB Dominick Kelly, and Florida CB Ja'Kobi Jackson (seventh year of college football). Ryan Day says high school prospects and development remain priorities even with the transfer volume - and the 2026 class still has seven Buckeyes ranked in the 247 final composite top 75, including 5-stars Chris Henry Jr., Cincere Johnson, and Jay Timmons.

The Big Ten picture. OSU still opens as the conference title favorite at +180 per BetMGM, ahead of Indiana (+250) and Oregon (+260) - the October-November stretch (at Indiana → at USC → home vs. Oregon → home vs. Penn State) decides the season.

Upcoming:

  • May 29-31 - Marcus Fakatou (5-star DL) + David Gabriel-Georges (5-star RB) official visits
  • Sept 5 - vs. Ball State (season opener)
  • Sept 12 - at Texas, 7:30 p.m. ABC

The training-engine lunch window (72°F, 13 mph) matches well - but the storm probability is afternoon-loaded, so a morning or early-noon run is the safer call if you can flex the time.
